Not many years ago, a "solar clock" meant plainly just a sundial. Sundials now are far more outdoor decoration than they are clocks. For obvious reasons, sundials are limited in accuracy and thus are generally used just for ornamentation and decorative features to dress up yards and gardens.

True solar clocks are part of the great technological advancements of recent decades that have made it possible to use small solar cells to generate electric power and/or store power in batteries to run clocks. Although they are small and personal jewelry, solar powered wristwatches also would be classified as solar clocks. Most solar clocks people shop for and enjoy in their homes are either table clocks, alarm clocks, or more frequently -- beautiful wall clocks, ranging in style from traditional to contemporary.
