Irish clocks offer fun, fine timekeeping

Irish clocks and Irish themed clocks attract both lovers of fun and lovers of fine timepieces.

From Irish pub clocks with name branding of various Irish drinks to replicas of famous Irish towers, castles and the clocks that go in them, Irish clocks make beautiful additions to your home and decor.

Ancient timepieces and tower clocks, later clocks built into castle turrets, appeared in Western Europe and the British Isles at least as early as the 1300s. (One of the oldest clocks still in existence, created by Christian Monk Peter Lightfoot, is in the London Science Museum.) Early clocks often were created by monks and other Christian religious, because many of the church's worship centered on various times of the day.

However, very early secular clocks -- such as the Prague Astronomical Clock -- were secular, and often stood on towers or stand-alone structures near the center of towns and cities. Indeed, by 1466 there was a clock standing on top of the governmental center in Dublin, Ireland. It may have been the earliest public clock in Ireland and probably had only an hour hand.

Irish clocks range in style from contemporary to beautiful Waterford Crystal clock creations. If you're looking for a fun clock or a fine timepiece, take a look at some of the Irish clocks on eBay:
