Mantel Clocks
Mantel clocks, first developed in France in the 1750s, are generally smaller clocks than floor clocks or grandfather clocks. They got their name because they traditionally were placed on the mantel above the home's fireplace. They are distinguished from other small clocks by usually having no handles for carrying. They were to be kept on the mantel.
